Bienvenidos a Mexico!

Bienvenidos a Mexico!

I just wrapped up my first day as a volunteer, and I wanted to share my first impressions of this amazing experience.

We are a group of about fifty Luxotticans from around the world who met this week in Mexico for a OneSight clinic.

In partnership with Devlyn Foundation and other local associations, our goal is to assist, in one week, over 4,200 patients, most of them children and elderly from Xalapa, Veracruz.

On the first day of the clinic we served over 600 patients and made over 200 pair of glasses in the laboratory.

The first day has been simply amazing. The group of us from Luxottica worked closely together all day long, and by the end of the afternoon, after such intense work, we really felt like we were getting to know each other. There is such positive energy in the group; everywhere I looked people were smiling and busy at work.

What about the local community we are serving?

We met people from Xalapa and the surrounding area. Xalapa is the capital city of the Mexican state of Veracruz, with a polulation of more than 400,000 citizens. The name Xalapa comes from the "sand" and "water place", which means "spring  in the sand".

We loved them from the beginning; everyone we were helping was very patient, sweet and thankful to meet with us and receive eye care.

And this is only the beginning...
