Innovative online eyewear shop, glasses.com, part of Luxottica Group since January 2014, announced on June 18th 2014 that their 3-D virtual try-on app has been honored with a 2014 Cannes Lions Bronze Award for “Creative Use of Technology.” The app also made the shortlist at this year’s prestigious festival in the “User Experience” category.

Blending Hollywood special effects with advanced computer modeling, the glasses.com app gives shoppers the ability to virtually try on hundreds of frames in less than a minute, making it easy and fun to discover the perfect look. Since its release in July 2013, the app has been downloaded over 1.3 million times and recognized by industry leaders as an advanced technology that is poised to change the way we shop.

Available for both Apple and Android devices, the glasses.com app renders images of each user so accurately that it is nearly impossible to distinguish from a real photograph. It captures video using the device’s camera and selects 15 still frames to render into a 180-degree 3D representation, with a front view and two side profiles of each user’s face, all in about one minute. Users can interact with the app, swiping the touch screen to slide frames up and down the bridge of their nose, and can also use built-in sharing features to get opinions from friends and family over social media.

“We believe that everyone should have glasses they love,” said glasses.com General Manager, John Graham. “Glasses.com has a unique balance of smart technology and passionate experts because we want to ensure every step of the process from finding eyewear online or on the go, to having them shipped fast and free, is a truly great experience. We’re thrilled to be recognized as a winner in this year’s Cannes Lions Festival.”

In addition to the Cannes Lions recognition, the glasses.com app recently won a Webby for “Best Use of Device Camera” at the 18th Annual Webby Awards, and was also recognized at the Appy Awards, winning the Retail category and taking home the highest honor of “Best in Show.”
