Luxottica has recently launched Global Players Program, an innovative program of education and coaching to offer its expats - employees who are about to leave for an assignment abroad - the tools to become true global players.

Global Players Program is the latest of these initiatives. This innovative educational and coaching  program supports expats – employees who are about to leave for an assignment abroad – with partner and family members, in a time of personal and professional change, offering them the tools to speed up the process of integration and fit in the new cultural and organizational context.

It’s hard to find a Luxottican that has never undertaken an international experience, working for a project or holding office abroad. Today expats most frequently come from Brazil, China, United States and Italy, while Europe, China, Brazil and USA are their most common destinations. These are all strategic markets for the Group, which offers various possibilities of work integration and professional development. An evolving scenario, in line with Luxottica’s dynamism.

Working abroad is an opportunity, but it also means entering a whole new world for culture, language, environment, people. Expats come to face many challenges arising from the different workplace, where they cannot take for granted that skills and behavior successfully adopted so far will be equally effective. They need a change of perspective: this is the first challenge to overcome, in order to connect with the new working environment and culture, and build new critical networks and trust.

Another challenge is to deal with increased unpredictability and with new modes of communicating and interpreting reality. A key factor is the ability to manage work teams of people from various backgrounds, cultures and different working styles, valuing diversity as a strategic resource.

Luxottica’s Global Players Program is designed to support expats, helping them become key actors of the global scenario. The path begins with a self-assessment to get acquainted with one’s attitudes and working style, one’s approach to different contexts and the way to relate to others. Information gathered and enhanced by a series of self-learning tools on the destination country, form the basis for the next step, intercultural coaching. During this phase, an experienced coach with a deep knowledge of the culture of the new country, supports expats in focusing on, and tune their strengths according to the new context, helping to identify and develop a number of effective and functional behaviors compared to the new role and organization they will operate in.

Through Global Players Program, Luxottica is investing to foster Luxotticans’ personal and professional growth, supporting their management skills. The program speeds up performance and cultural integration while maximizes return on business performance and organizational efficiency.
