Today more than ever, Persol is a timeless style icon, the embodiment of craftsmanship tradition, quality and Italian design. At the same time it is a main player in the modern world, reaching out towards new frontiers thanks to its innate pioneering spirit.

Every pair of Persol glasses is a small masterpiece of engineering and hand design. Behind the scenes of the production process a striving for excellence is evident in design, selection of materials and refined “handmade” skills, flanked by cutting-edge technologies. Maniacal attention to detail characterizes each of the thirty manufacturing stages required to make the brand’s eyewear.

Persol has the capacity to reinvent itself while remaining loyal to its identity. Enthusiastic research into new style languages, keeping pace with evolving consumer tastes and needs, translates into new ideas and bold contemporary reinterpretation of the icon models and distinctive features that have made the Luxottica Group brand famous worldwide.

Lightness, comfort and functionality are the latest trends that inspire eyewear collections for spring-summer 2016. Relentless design work has focused on one of the unmistakable symbol of the brand’s identity: the Arrow. But how do you innovate a symbol while respecting its intrinsic value?

Main goal of the project: to lighten the hinge in terms of weight and aesthetics to guarantee a lightweight frame and maximum comfort, in line with the spring-summer 2016 eyewear collection. The hinge was therefore made smaller while respecting the renowned Persol style, enhancing the finest handcrafted acetate and guaranteeing product durability.

The fundamental choice of materials. Virtual simulations of the static and dynamic behavior of the hinge were performed to choose a metal alloy expected to be narrow than ever and long-lasting at the same time. This led to a new arrow-shaped hinge made with naturally bright AISI 316L Stainless Steel.

Processing. Each new hinge produced in Luxottica factories, is obtained by high precision metal injection molding to guarantee high quality and mechanical performance. Even the small couple of Meflecto system cylinders on the temple, which make the temples flexible for personalized fit, were resized in harmonious proportion to stay true to Persol style. Finally, they were hot dipped into the acetate by hand during the production stage for a perfect and firm matching.

Main characteristics. The new Persol Arrow is extremely resistant and flexible and works in synergy with Meflecto. Thanks to the new design, eyewear temples are lighter and give the glasses an original, elegant and understated profile, particularly suited to new and increasingly thin frames. The process of continuous improvement of the Arrow took months of design and prototyping, till shrinking of 26% the former flex hinge.
