Global Eye CareEach year, OneSight volunteers and doctors travel to developing countries worldwide to hand-deliver free vision care and eyewear to thousands of adults and children in need. Each two-week, temporary optical Clinic is staffed by 35 Luxottica employee volunteers and doctors. Recipients are given a thorough eye health check and eyewear for those in need. During each Clinic, volunteers dispense both optical and sunglasses to up to 20,000 people in need.

OneSight works closely with local governments, health care officials and independent doctors of optometry to ensure each Clinic runs smoothly. OneSight also seeks partnerships with local eye surgeons to provide free surgeries for OneSight patients in need.

To date, Luxottica and other volunteers have run more than 165 clinics in 31 different developing countries, helping more than 3 million people. In 2009, OneSight will conduct 20 Clinics in 14 countries, including first time visits to South Africa and Brazil.

“An 80 year-old little lady stood about 4 foot 5 and had a bunch of letters in her hand. After receiving her reading glasses – at a fairly high prescription, she immediately began to pour through the letters. The translator explained that she had received letters from her family for years that she was unable to read. A simple pair of glasses enables her to catch up on all she has missed with her family and to ensure she’ll never miss anything again!” Shawn, Target Optical, North America, Chile Clinic 2008
