SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE BUSINESS APPROACH OF LUXOTTICA

The 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is an action program for people, the planet and prosperity signed on 25 September 2015 by the governments of 193 countries in the United Nations Organization (UNO). It includes 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 specific targets to be reached by 2030.

The aims are of a universal nature and include all countries and natural and legal persons of civil society such as corporations, organizations and citizens. They are based on the integration of economic, social and environmental dimensions as the prerequisite for the wellbeing of humanity.

The new approach to sustainable development promoted by the 2030 Agenda acknowledges the linkage and interconnection between social and human well-being and the well-being of the natural world.

The SDGs refer to four macro areas for intervention, in order to:

  • end poverty, hunger and inequality
  • intervene in climate change and preserve the environmental ecosystem
  • adopt quality educational and health systems that can be accessed by all
  • build solid institutions and forms of cooperation.
