The Three Peaks 24-Hour Challenge involved a total walking distance of 26 miles (43 kilometers) and a total ascent of 1.86 miles (3,000 meters) to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scarfell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales.

Sunglass Hut managers Dipti and Graham started planning the event last year after a  bicycle challenge that raised $7,665 (£4,806, €5,700) was over. This year, the bar was set higher and the team more than doubled the amount raised—$18,398 (£11,535, €13,737).

The group began climbing Ben Nevis in the early morning, Sept. 10, and reached the summit despite cold temperatures, poor visibility and chilling winds. The difficult conditions didn't stop them from attempting the second hike up Scarfell Pike at 10:30 p.m. under a clear sky and no wind. At this point, most of the team was very tired but determined to finish. The 16 teammates reached the summit of the last mountain, Snowdon, around 9:20 a.m. the next morning, completing the challenge for OneSight.

“The atmosphere was truly breathtaking as we all made it and achieved such a hard challenge,” said Dipti. “It was a fantastic group effort with everyone contributing, and the OneSight flag was unfurled on all three peaks. Everyone will have a lasting memory of their achievement.”

“This was the hardest challenge I have ever done in my life,” added Dipti, “but I was determined to climb the three mountains. I am very proud to be part of company that takes passionate interest in charity work. The team did a great job working together to achieve such a physical challenge and I am very proud of each and every one of them.”

A few more words from the team:

“A year in planning, a day in the execution. The hardest challenge I have ever done, made enjoyable due to a great group of people. The best OneSight event the UK has put together with a great result for a great cause.”

- Graham, Manager at Sunglass Hut

“The Three Peaks Challenge was an exhausting, yet rewarding and incredible experience. It wasn't just physically demanding but mentally too. Sleep deprivation makes this challenge even harder. Knowing the money raised has helped improve many lives is the icing on the cake.”

- Dean, Sales Associate at Sunglass Hut

“I absolutely loved participating in the Three Peaks Challenge. Everyone I met was really friendly and made the whole experience a lot of fun. Despite the cold, rain and lack of sleep, I thoroughly enjoyed taking on the challenge and I am very proud of the amount the team raised.”

- Kayleigh, Friend of Dean

“I believe OneSight does tremendous work and I am honored to be able to help them achieve their mission by raising money for them. It was an extremely difficult challenge dealing with lots of factors like sleep deprivation and the difficult mountain climbs, but it was all worth it.”

- Katio, Store Manager at David Clulow Selfridges Opticians
