NEW YORK FASHION WEEK 2016 PROVOCATIVE COLLABORATION BETWEEN ALAIN MIKLI AND JEREMY SCOTT

An exclusive collaboration between famed fashion designer Jeremy Scott and French avant-garde brand Alain Mikli made its debut at New York Fashion Week 2016, during the American designer’s Resort 2017 runway show. Their shared aesthetic vision that includes bold colors and eccentric designs made for a natural partnership.

The fashion capitals were frenzied with excitement as various brands and designers present their newest women’s collections. New York Fashion Week started on 8th September with a schedule packed with events that ended on the 14th, followed by London, continuing in Milan, and finally wrapping up in Paris. Among the news on the Big Apple’s runways, the birth of a sensational collaboration between two irreverent and eccentric brands: Alain Mikli and Jeremy Scott.

Since its launch in 1978, the brand Alain Mikli has been synonymous of distinctiveness and provocation thanks to its unique design and exclusive color combinations that create frames into a wearable piece of art. Part of Luxottica Group since 2013, the recognizable style of the brand reflects its fondness for acetate, particularly in a variety of eclectic shapes, colors and patterns. Use of the color red, as well as checkerboard print, is iconic.

Mikli often collaborates with iconic brands and artists who share a common aesthetic vision. The shared affinities with Jeremy Scott make for an easy alliance. The over-the-top designer from Missouri is inspired by American pop culture that translates into extravagant and colorful collections full of provocation and humor. Both brands have share a penchant for original and disruptive aesthetics, using bold combinations of colors and shapes to push boundaries of fashion that becomes art.

The joint project has aligned the two brands in the creation and subsequent launch of two sunglasses during Scott's show at New York Fashion Week:

  • the iconic asymmetric frame – a vintage model recognizable to the Mikli brand - was reproduced exclusively for the first time ever for the runway of another brand in black and bright pink. These were featured during the catwalk, as were apparel prints of the standout style.  25 pieces in the black and white damier pattern print were created the show and friends of the house celebrities.
  • The distinct angular design features an elongated upswept shape in a thick acetate that makes a strong statement. Available in three iconic color ways, noir (black), rouge (red) and turquoise, the sunglass debuted first at Scott’s fashion show and will be included as part of Alain Mikli’s Summer collection, available in stores May 2017.
